Great Canadian Trek Challenge

DO YOU LIKE TO TRAVEL?

DO YOU HAVE AN IDEA OF WHERE YOU MIGHT LIKE TO GO IN CANADA IF YOU HAD A CHANCE TO TAKE A TRIP?

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRAVEL WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND SHARE THIS WITH YOUR PEERS ACROSS CANADA?

WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEARN HOW TO TRACK YOUR WALKING DISTANCE (HOW FAR YOU WALK IN A DAY?)

If you answered ‘yes’ to most of the questions above, then you are definitely going to have fun on the GREAT CANADIAN TREK CHALLENGE.

What is this?
This is a celebration of two simple things:

  • The joy of walking
  • Enjoying the great outdoors and a healthy environment

HOW DO YOU GET INVOVLED?  Well follow the checklist:

THE CHECKLIST:

STEP 1:
The challenge is a team challenge so you need to get your teacher, counsellor, and youth leader, to help organize your TREK CHALLENGE team.

STEP 2:
Your team needs to decide where you think you would like to travel to in Canada and why you might want to go there as a group.

STEP 3:
Check out a MAP and see what your route to your destination is. Mark out some points of interest. ASK for suggestions from your family, teachers, leaders, etc…. they might know some neat places to stop along the way!

 STEP 4:
Guess what? You are ready to start your VIRTUAL TREK! Your mission is to walk to your destination and to also enjoy the stops you have planned on your journey map.

Yes WALKING! Now you might be asking yourself that this is going to be a long walk and yes this is a challenging TREK, but if you have a team of walkers then everyone’s STEPS will be added to eventually reach your destination quicker, without too much difficulty.

STEP 5:
Get your team leader (teacher, counsellor, youth leader etc..) to introduce a method to track your virtual trekking. They will also help you with the following:
  • DEVELOPING A STEP COUNTING SYSTEM: You will receive a Sport-in-a-Box pedometer
  • DEVELOPING A SHEET TO RECORD YOUR STEPS
  • DEVELOPING A SYSTEM TO ADD EVERYONES STEPS AND FIGURE OUT THE DISTANCE THEY WALK IN KILOMETERS
  • HELP THE GROUP TO RECORD THE DISTANCE ON THE SPORT-IN-A-BOX WEBSITE.

STEP 6:
Check out the website to see how far your region has walked and where your peers in other regions of Canada are going?
