Wheelchair Basketball Paralympian brings Sport-in-a-Box to Ottawa Public School
Tuesday, April 11th, 2006 Ottawa-The United Nations Association in Canada through its Sport-in-a-Box programme will be hosting a morning of Wheelchair Basketball to the students of Centennial Public School, on Wednesday April 12th. The event will be hosted by Patrick Anderson, Captain of the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball team and Sarah Kambites, Education Programme Manager for UNA-Canada, to promote Sport-in-a-Box.
The Hon. Michael D. Chong, President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister for Sport will also be addressing the students on the importance of sport and physical education.
Patrick Anderson touted by the Paralympic Games as being “arguably the best Wheelchair Basketball player in the world.” A testament to that reputation is his gold-medal win for Canada at the Paralympic games in Athens in 2004. Patrick is a trailblazer in changing the way people view athletes today, he remains an inspiration and ambassador of Sport to UNA-Canada.
Sport-in-a-Box inspires young Canadians to use the power of sport to engage with their communities in the global issues that affect us all. This innovative, creative and fun project uses sport to promote public awareness and to highlight the importance of a life-long engagement in sport, physical activity and the appreciation of social-cultural diversity.
