Cassie Campbell

Cassie Campbell, a 12 year veteran of the National Women's Hockey Team is no stranger to the Olympic experience.  Competing with Team Canada at the Turin 2006 Olympic Games was her third Olympic experience.  Born on November 22, 1973 in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Campbell now considers Brampton, Ontario her hometown.

In 2001 Cassie began volunteering with her teammates at the Ronald McDonald House in Calgary.  They work with parents and children facing life's toughest challenge, a child being treated for a life-threatening illness.  The House offers a home away from home for families with sick children.  "Their courage has been a source of inspiration for me in my own life and in my athletic career."

By 2004, the House had become a very important place in her life and Cassie wanted to do more to help the organization. From her idea and passion, the Cassie Campbell Street Hockey Festival was born.  Now an annual event, Cassie along with individuals and corporations in and around Calgary have raised $125,000 so far.

On and off the ice Cassie is an inspiration for many young aspiring Olympians.  What a reversal of roles since Cassie was herself inspired to reach the Olympics after watching them on television as a child.  "My childhood memories of watching other Canadians stand on the podium and listening to our anthem inspired me a lot."  Many young athletes could learn from Cassie's positive attitude and great perspective.
